Combining the immunization programs of China, Europe, America, Japan, South Korea and other mainstream countries, we clearly compare the core vaccination items to help foreign parents check their children's original vaccination plans, supplement missing vaccinations and meet their needs. For advice on which plan your child should follow for vaccination, please consult the doctors in the Child Health Department of Beijing Jingdu Children's Hospital.
(I) Core Common Vaccination Items (Focused on by All Countries)
These vaccines are recognized globally as essential for children's basic immunization. The concept of vaccination at home and abroad is consistent, with only slight differences in vaccination time and dosage:
• Polio Vaccine: China adopts the "2 doses of inactivated + 2 doses of attenuated" procedure, while Europe and the United States mainly use full-course inactivated vaccines. Both require 4 doses of basic immunization to protect children from poliovirus.
• DPT Vaccine: It is a routine basic vaccination both at home and abroad. China administers a total of 5 doses (basic doses at 3-5 months and 18 months old, booster dose at 6 years old), while the dosage in Europe and the United States is slightly adjusted. Its core function is to prevent diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.
• MMR Vaccine: China implements a 2-dose procedure (1 dose at 8 months old and 1 dose at 18 months old). European and American countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States also recommend 2 doses. Some countries have incorporated it into routine immunization as a tetravalent vaccine combined with chickenpox vaccine. The vaccine strains are slightly different but the protective effect is consistent.
(II) Vaccination Items with Differences at Home and Abroad (Focus on to Avoid Missing)
Country/Region | Characteristic Vaccination Items (Including Free/Routine) | Core Differences from China |
China | 1. Free Category I: BCG (administered at birth), JE Vaccine (nationwide coverage starting from 2026), Meningococcal Vaccine (Group A and AC), Hepatitis A Vaccine; 2. Paid Category II: EV71 HFMD Vaccine, Pentavalent Rotavirus Vaccine, etc. | 1. Focus on the prevention and control of locally prevalent diseases (JE and meningococcal diseases are prevalent in some areas of China); 2. The immunization program mainly targets children under 6 years old, with more single vaccines and less application of combined vaccines; 3. BCG is a free mandatory vaccine to protect newborns from tuberculosis. |
United States | After adjustment in 2026, 11 vaccines are routinely recommended (retaining diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, chickenpox, etc.); RSV Vaccine is only recommended for high-risk children and children whose mothers have not been vaccinated; HPV Vaccine is adjusted to 1 dose recommendation. | 1. In 2026, 6 vaccines including influenza, rotavirus, hepatitis A and hepatitis B were removed from routine recommendations (still available for paid vaccination); 2. Chickenpox Vaccine is a routine free vaccination, while it is paid in China; 3. The immunization program covers a wider population, including adolescents and adults. |
United Kingdom | Starting from 2026, the measles-mumps-rubella-chickenpox tetravalent vaccine will be incorporated into routine immunization, with 1 dose each at 12 months and 18 months old; routine coverage of basic vaccines such as polio and DPT. | 1. Chickenpox Vaccine is officially incorporated into routine immunization (paid in China), mainly using tetravalent combined vaccines to reduce vaccination times; 2. Focus on the prevention and control of respiratory infectious diseases, and the vaccine technology is more inclined to multivalent and combined vaccines. |
Japan & South Korea | Routine coverage of polio, DPT, MMR, chickenpox (free), hepatitis B, etc.; official documents in South Korea often use red seals, and vaccination records are compatible with international inspection. | 1. Chickenpox and Hepatitis B Vaccines are mostly routine free vaccinations (Hepatitis B is free and chickenpox is paid in China); 2. The vaccination procedure is more suitable for the physical constitution of Asian children, with little difference from China, which is convenient for foreign children to connect with vaccination. |
