Dr. Duan Weihong is a leading expert in China's hepatobiliary surgery field, renowned for pioneering ultra-high-difficulty surgeries that drive global medical advancements. During his tenure as Director of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Department at the Rocket Force Characteristic Medical Center, he led multiple breakthrough surgeries, including:
Ex vivo liver resection combined with autologous liver transplantation
Total hepatectomy combined with total pancreatectomy and allogeneic liver transplantation
Total pancreatectomy for advanced pancreatic cancer combined with small intestine resection and autologous intestinal transplantation
His achievements have positioned China at the international forefront of hepatobiliary oncology surgery, gaining global academic recognition.
For complex liver disease cases with vascular invasion, completed multiple cases of ex vivo liver resection and autologous liver transplantation; for biliary system tumor cases involving the liver and pancreas, performed total liver combined with total pancreas and spleen resection, and allogeneic liver transplantation.
For complex pancreatic cancer cases with arterial and venous invasion (previously considered inoperable), developed extended radical pancreatic cancer resection with small intestine autotransplantation—excising the pancreatic tumor, invaded blood vessels, and small intestine en bloc, removing the lesion ex vivo, and transplanting the remaining normal small intestine back into the body. Also includes procedures like "combined partial atrial resection, right hemihepatectomy, and resection of the invaded inferior vena cava with allogeneic vascular graft anastomosis." These cutting-edge techniques have significantly improved the radical resection rate of pancreatic cancer, achieving an R0 resection rate of over 80% in non-distant metastatic pancreatic cancer cases.
In the treatment of childhood hepatoblastoma, neuroblastoma, and nephroblastoma, completed internationally benchmark cases like "combined partial atrial resection, right hemihepatectomy, and resection of the invaded inferior vena cava with allogeneic vascular graft anastomosis," enabling surgical resection for many pediatric liver tumor patients who would otherwise require transplantation.
Particularly skilled in handling complex cases deemed "inoperable" by other institutions.
